Four Square pops back up at Fieldays

Four Square is back at Mystery Creek for Fieldays 2026, with a pop-up store from 10–13 June after a well-received debut last year.  

The pop-up is stocked, staffed and operated by Waikato owner-operators Alex Saunders (Four Square Heaphy Terrace) and Chris McDonnell (Four Square Pirongia), a collaboration that reflects the role of locally owned stores in their communities.  

Chris says he’s looking forward to being a part of Four Square at Fieldays, “Fieldays is part of the fabric of our community. Half of my customers will be out here this week, showcasing their businesses, running the stalls or enjoying the event. As a rural community store, it means a lot to support the people who make our region what it is.” 

The 9m x 18m modular store is designed to replicate the look and feel of a modern Four Square while catering to the flow of Fieldays crowds. It’s been built in partnership with Colab Projects Ltd and fitted out with shelving from NZ Retail Equipment. 

Inside, the store offers a range of familiar Four Square groceries, including Havana barista coffee, sandwiches, ice cream, hot pies, steam buns, chips, snacks and drinks, alongside everyday essentials for Fieldays visitors on the go. The layout includes 13 bays, produce baskets, chillers, freezers, a prep kitchen and a steam bun oven. 

This year’s return also brings a special charitable addition. Inspired by a mini Four Square he built for his daughter Lilah last year, Four Square Heaphy Terrace owner Alex has built a second miniature store from scratch to be raffled off during Fieldays.  

Proceeds from the raffle will go to the Rural Support Trust, supporting farming communities across New Zealand.  

“It started as something fun for Lilah, but seeing how much joy it brought, we thought Fieldays was the perfect place to do it again – this time for a great cause,” says Alex.  

Tickets are $2 and available to buy from the Four Square Fieldays store throughout the event.
